2016 Moto Guzzi Audace 1400

Ostentatious, muscular and fierce, the Audace can be picked out immediately by its front end, made stylistically lighter by the circular headlight unit and the carbon mudguard mounted on a fork without any telescope covering. It has no chromium plating so every mechanical detail, each small exposed metallic part is dark as night, an ideal condition for fully enjoying a bike in solitude with the striking beauty of the Audace.

About the "Hejira"In 2015, we had the opportunity to preview new-arriving Moto Guzzi cruisers with a group of our customers. We saw the Audace, Eldorado, and MGX-21. By far the majority liked the Audace best.

But that was just based on looks. When the bikes arrived, many people didn’t like the ergonomics of the Audace; the handlebars were just too far forward. And, no one was pleased to learn that no hard saddlebag kits were available and that the windshields from the other 1400s didn’t transfer over either. To keep with the non-gloss theme of the bike, we chose leather-covered hard plastic saddlebags.

So we worked out ways to mount the windshield and saddlebags and adapted a more upright handlebar. But we kept in mind that this was not to be a fully decked-out touring bike. We wanted to honor what Guzzi built but embellish it, not bury it.

As for the name, a “Hejira” was the title of a Joni Mitchell album and means a journey to a more desirable place.

Fly-and-Ride: This program is for people verifiably living outside of Washington State. Your Fly-and-Ride price is just the selling price of the bike plus the freight & setup and $35 for a temporary license plate (unless you can bring your own from where you live). Fly-and-Ride saves you the document fee and our state’s very high sales tax and title/license fees. You will still have to pay sales tax (if it exists where you live) and title/license fees back home (hopefully at a much lower rate). We also reimburse you up to $300 for a one-way coach fare to get here. And if timing works out, we’ll pick you up at the airport or train/bus station.

Here’s more on Fly-and-Ride.

To Your Door Pricing: This program is for people living in one of the 47 continental US states other than Washington. Your “To Your Door” price is just the selling price of the bike plus the freight & setup and $650 for insured shipping. For some west coast states the price may be less. Alaska, Hawaii, plus Canada and other countries naturally are more, due to higher shipping rates. To Your Door saves you the document fee and our state’s very high sales tax and title/license fees. You will still have to pay sales tax (if it exists where you live) and title/license fees back home (hopefully at a much lower rate).
